SmartBattery: What is it and how does it work?

Batteries, in all laptop brands, are the component that can present the most problems. This is because they undergo wear and tear from usage and environmental factors, such as heat.

For more information, visit: Why do batteries degrade over time?

This is where our new SmartBattery intelligent battery system comes into play, available in all our new
Excalibur model laptop. This technology automatically enhances the system, requiring minimal user intervention for battery care, as the system takes care of (almost) everything.

Its main features are:

⚡ SmartVoltage
Heat is a major problem for battery life. With this system, the voltage reaching the battery is automatically regulated, allowing for limiting the charging power to prolong its lifespan without compromising the performance of the rest of the laptop. This adjustment takes into account the battery temperature and other factors, such as CPU power demand and overall device temperature. Although this mode may increase battery charging time, temperature monitoring and requirements are constant, and as soon as more power can be supplied, it will do so.

♻️ SmartCycle
As you may already know, lithium-ion batteries have a certain number of life cycles. This mode reduces several charge and discharge cycles by supplying energy directly from the charger to the system without passing through the battery. In this case, the system acts as if the battery were disconnected, even if its charge level is below 90%. Energy is consumed directly from the adapter without charging the battery. The system decides when to do this, but to force charging, you only need to disconnect the charger, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect it.

⏯️ SmartLimit
During the final charging process of batteries, lithium ions undergo greater stress. This mode blocks the charge when the charger is connected and the battery is already practically charged, specifically at 95% or more. The computer will operate normally, and the battery will neither charge nor discharge. To recharge the battery to 100% again, initiate a normal process: use the computer until it discharges below 94% (preferably more) and then connect the charger. A slower and less stressful charging process for the battery will then start.

All these modes work together transparently and independently of the operating system to offer a balance between user ease of use and increased battery lifespan.

Please note that the SmartBattery function is only activated when using a certified USB-C Power Delivery 100W charger from your Slimbook Excalibur AMD.
