Sometimes you need to know which CPU your Slimbook has. For example, when we publish an update for the BIOS or/and EC, but only for the model that has a specific CPU. If you try to update the BIOS of an Excalibur with AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor with the version that corresponds to an AMD Ryzen 7 7740HS you can get a nice paperweight. To avoid that, here's how to find out, in a simple way, the CPU of your computer.
From Linux:
1. Using our software slimbook service. By clicking on System information you will get the main information about your computer, including the CPU installed.2. From a terminal, you will have to launch the command “dmidecode” as sudo.
sudo dmidecode -t processor |
Your CPU model will appear on the screen.
From Windows:
An easy way is to see it from the system information. For it we press the key Windows/Tux, we will type System or System Information and we will click in the corresponding application. In both cases we will obtain the required information.
In System, under About -> Device specifications:
In System Información, under System Summary:
Another way is to get it from a command prompt or terminal. Press the Windows/Tux key, type “terminal” or “cmd” and execute. Once the console is open, we will use the wmic command which, among other multiple uses, allows us to obtain information about the system. We will launch the following command:
wmic cpu get Name |
In this way we will be obtaining the Name attribute of the CPU, which will be just what we are interested in.
From the BIOS
A last option, which is independent of the operating system you use, is to get it directly from the BIOS.
To enter the BIOS you will have to press a different key depending on which Slimbook you have. Usually that key is F2, but check your computer's startup guide to find out which key to press. Press it repeatedly right after the computer starts booting and you will enter the BIOS.
There are several types of BIOS and in each one it will appear in a different section. Usually it will be in the Main or System Information screen, in a Processor Type, CPU or similar section. Here are some examples:
BIOS American Megatrends
BIOS Insyde
