Problems with graphic card in Debian Slimbook creative

Avatar

I keep on having problems with my graphic cards and my debian 12.12 installation. I solved problems with instable wifi by installing the 12.12 kernel, but I keep on getting errors on starting the laptop. It takes long and I did manage to get my second display working, but when my second display is not connected, I can not get my laptop display working.

Question: Should I move to the slimbook distro and wil this solve all my harware issues. I am tired of all the errors!

Good morning,

We are sorry to hear that you are having problems with Debian.
If possible, I recommend you to try Slimbook OS to rule out hardware failure.
And for the suspension problem, you can try the fix in this tutorial.

So how save is it to update to Slimbook kernel? It is the laptop where I work with and need it daily. Can I expect problems that need technical support, or is it just a easy switch and I can work with my laptop after the change? Which kernel fits my Slimbook Creative best?

Does it overwrite my current plugins, like gnome desktop addons and changes I made in Grub? It does not matter when I loose preferences btw. Just want to be sure it does not conflict my current settings.

Does this mean my hardware problems will be solved after installing Slimbook Kernel?

Of course I understand I can better make a backup of my current file.

Hola Koper,

It can be used without deleting anything from the hard drive through the pendrive (Live USB) simply to verify that it is not a hardware failure.

Good morning,

We are testing Debian, at the moment the diagnosis we have is that the AMD GPU driver is failing with Debian and this CPU (8845HS).
We have tried with another driver and it fails the same.
We don't have any solution for the moment, but in Slimbook OS everything works correctly.
Best regards,

I followed the instructions and the settings with grub are probabley wrong. I changed it in my debian installation.

# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update

# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

# For full documentation of the options in this file, see:

#   info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'

GRUB_DEFAULT=0

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

GRUB_TIMEOUT=0

GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR='Slimbook-OS'

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT='quiet splash'

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

# If your computer has multiple operating systems installed, then you

# probably want to run os-prober. However, if your computer is a host

# for guest OSes installed via LVM or raw disk devices, running

# os-prober can cause damage to those guest OSes as it mounts

# filesystems to look for things.

#GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false

# Uncomment to enable BadRAM filtering, modify to suit your needs

So I think it is the underlined line that I need to change, but I do not know in what.

Next I think lost all my data although following the instructions. I have a back up of most of the files...

To claerify. When it starts up with and it shows: 'grub>', when I press enter it starts in Slimbook os.

In the last post I said that with enter I could on on with the slimbook os, but I was mistaken. With 'exit' I could start slimbook os. Unfortunatly I can not edit posts. Not enough Karma points. Who can help met with karma points. This makes this forum inefficient!

Together with AI, I managed to solve the startup in grub>. The startup order in the BIOS was 1. Debian. I changed that to Slimbook OS and now it starts directly.
