How to Install Slimbook OS 24
Step-by-step Guide

Installing a new operating system may seem complicated, but with this simple and detailed guide, you can easily install Slimbook OS 24 on your Slimbook (or any other computer). Just follow these steps.

Before You Start:

1. USB Drive: You'll need a USB drive with at least 8GB of space to create the installer.
2. Download Slimbook OS 24:
 Slimbook OS 24
3. Create a Bootable USB: Follow this tutorial to create one: How to create a Windows (or any) bootable USB from Linux with Ventoy

Step 1: Boot from the USB

Once you’ve created the bootable USB, connect it to the computer where you want to install Slimbook OS. Restart the computer and access the boot menu (usually by pressing F12, ESC, F2, or F10, depending on your computer). Select your USB as the boot device.
You will see a screen where you can choose your preferred language and select the GNOME or KDE desktop. Press Enter to continue.

Step 2: Start the Installation

Once in the Live session, you can try Slimbook OS or install it directly.
Choose your language and click "Next" to continue.
There's no need to set the keyboard layout and region at this point as these settings won’t be saved permanently—this will be done later.

Choose your language and click "Next" to proceed.

Step 3: Installation Type

IMPORTANT: Select the hard drive where you want to install Slimbook OS from the dropdown menu.

Next, you need to choose how you want to install Slimbook OS. There are three main options:

  - Install alongside: This option automatically partitions the hard drive and installs Slimbook OS alongside other operating systems without deleting anything. Keep in mind that the partition size will be smaller.
  - Replace a partition:
This option replaces the selected partition with Slimbook OS.
 - Erase disk and install Slimbook OS:
This option will erase all the content on the hard drive (including other operating systems). In this option, we can choose whether we want SWAP with or without hibernation.
  - Manual partitioning:
For advanced users, this allows more customization and changes to the file system.

If you're unsure, select "Erase disk" and press "Next". This is the simplest method for most users.

Step 4: Confirm Changes

If you chose to erase the disk, the installer will ask for confirmation. Review everything, and if it's correct, click the "Install" button.

Step 5: Complete the Installation on the Hard Drive

Depending on the speed of your hard drive, this step may take 2 to 10 minutes. Once completed, you’ll see a screen asking you to restart your computer. Click "Done," and the computer will automatically restart.

After restarting, you’ll see this screen where you need to remove the installation USB first and then press "Enter."

Step 6: User creation

Step 7: Finalize Setup

After configuring everything, you’ll see a screen that says "Done." Click it, and the computer will restart again.

After restarting, the login screen for your username and password will appear.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Slimbook OS 24 on your computer, and it’s now ready to use.
