unexpected reboot and updates

Hi,

I'm a "command line type of guy" and since I've got my Slimbook EVO (running Slimbook OS) I've allways updated with "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade". This could be related with my problem (or not).

I've noticed that the repositories for slimbook weren't installed and added them with "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:slimbook/slimbook"

Today, the computer decided to reboot without warning after I've turned it on, when I was typing a new wi-fi password. I thought... that's weird... better do the updates. And so i did.

After the updates, I have rebooted and came to find that after typing the password to decrypt the disk, instead of loading the OS and all that, i came to a black screen with the prompt "grub>". I'm not really used to this, so after a few tries with no success, i pressed the button force power off and then powered back on and everything was ok.

For the unexpected reboot, is there any log that i can inspect to understand what caused it if it happens again?

And about the grub prompt, should i give it another command to "resume with the normal boot"?

I noticed that the graphical tool for the updates still finds stuff to update after apt-get did his thing. But apt-get says that some updates are deferred due to phasing and I'm ok with that. Please let me know if the graphical tool for the updates is preferable.

Good morning,
First of all, Slimbook OS 24 is based on Ubuntu 24.04LTS, so the repository has changed for these new versions, and is already installed by default on our system.
If you do a sudo apt update, you will see that one of the repository lines is archive.slimbook or similar.
The ppa repository is for versions up to Ubuntu 22LTS, you do NOT have to add it in Ubuntu 24LTS based versions.
They may conflict with each other.
I don't know if the problem you have is related to some update, but actually in both sites you update in the same way.
If you don't have anything important on your computer, I recommend you to reinstall the system and avoid having conflicting packages.

Point taken. If i see erratic behaviour repeating often, I will surely consider a reinstall.

But for the time being i have removed it with:

    sudo apt-add-repository -r ppa:slimbook/slimbook
Thanks!
