Hello everybody!
I recently purchased a Slimbook One and have a question.
The fan makes a higher-pitched sound than the normal sound of air passing through.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's pretty quiet.
In fact, at first I had doubts that the fan was working properly.
Since it stops, I guess, and starts up as needed, to cool the processor, I thought it wasn't working properly.
To verify, I had him compile a software package and yes, then it was noticeable that the cooling system was working.
The problem is not the volume of the sound but the quality.
It sounds like an angle grinder from a distance, or the sound of running a fingernail across its aluminum casing.
When under light load always starting and stopping, and constant when processing more intensively.
In other words, it's more of a "screeech" than a "swooooch".
Is it normal? Does anyone have the same experience? It's a bit annoying, because I use it in a rather quiet environment and it's very noticeable.
Other than that I would be happy with the purchase.
I await your input on the matter.
Slimbook gentlemen, is this normal? Is there anything that can be done about this?
Thanks!

Hello!
Thank you for reaching out and for choosing the Slimbook One. We're glad to hear that overall, you're happy with your purchase.
Regarding the fan noise, while some variation in sound is normal, what you describe—a higher-pitched, "screeching" noise could be due to several factors, including:
1. Airflow Through the Ventilation Grilles. Depending on the fan speed and the design of the ventilation grilles, the airflow can create a whistling or high-pitched sound. This happens due to air turbulence passing through specific openings at certain velocities. To check if this is the case, try:
- Slightly tilting or repositioning the Slimbook One to see if the noise changes.
- Cleaning the ventilation grilles to ensure there are no obstructions affecting the airflow.
- Elevating the device slightly or placing it on a different surface to modify air circulation.
2. Since the fan starts and stops dynamically, adjusting power settings might help smooth out these transitions. If you’re using Linux, tools like amdcontroller can help regulate power consumption and cooling behavior.
You can also change work mode from BIOS: https://slimbook.com/en/blog/guides-2/post/how-to-change-the-work-mode-on-slimbook-one-m8-420
3. Mechanical Issue with the Fan
- If the noise persists and resembles a grinding or whining sound, it might indicate a mechanical issue, such as misaligned fan bearings. In this case, further inspection or a fan replacement might be necessary.
If the issue continues to be bothersome, please contact our support team via Slimbook Support with your order details. We’ll be happy to assist you further.
Let us know how it goes!
