No DisplayPort output visible on HDMI monitor.

Hi,

Today I got a Slimbook Zero N100 (intel)  with an Hdmi and a DisplayPort on a front side.

The Hdmi port shows the screen directly on my first Hdmi-tv. The DisplayPort does not show anything on my second Hdmi-tv.  Both screens are detected as screen 1 and screen 2.

What I have tried:

1. DisplayPort to Hdmi cable

2. Delock  61849   DP to Hdmi convertor  (1.1)  with different Hdmi cables

3. Delock  62734   DP to Hdmi convertor  (1.2)  with different Hdmi cables

When the DP port is directly connected with another DP-port monitor, then the screen is working.  So the DP port of the computer is working. I think it is the conversion from the DP port to the HDMI signal. It must have an adaptor, because it is not DP+. What I oversee here?

Any help is higyly appreciated!

Hi,

I might have figure it out.

The output of the the Zero is version 1.4, so that's why the used adapters doesn't work. A new adapter is ordered and on its way.

Hola heian,

Can you try a live USB of Slimbook OS to see if that also fails?

Gracias!

Hi Antonio,

I got my DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI converter, but it doesn't work as well.  No input signal on several HDMI tv's. (i'm a technician and swapped several cables/tv's and tested the converter on another computer. There is no bad item used, and the right inputs were selected on the TV's.)

I booted Slimbook OS from the bought usb stick with the computer.  Even in this installer menu, there is only one screen working.

I couldn't find *Try* Slimbook OS as an option. Did you mean I need to re-install the OS as a test?

Thanks in advance!

You can try without installing by clicking on "Boot Slimbook OS 24 Gnome"

I tried to boot from Boot Slimbook OS 24 Gnome, but there is no option to "Try Slimbook OS".
It always endup  on the options: install alongside, replace a partition, erase disk and manual partition.

I tried to test with an usb stick with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, (which I have tested on another machine, usb stick works). All I got was a message: initramfs unpacking failed: no cpio magic

Next thing I did was installing Slimbook OS alonside the installed OS. Made a new account, updated the OS completely. The result is the same: NO picture on the DisplayPort output (via the active DP to HDMI converter) to the HDMI TV.

When I connected the DisplayPort output from the computer directly to a monitor that has a DisplayPort input, it just works!

I'm running out of idea's.

last update:

I created a new bootable Ubuntu 24.04 usb stick with Universal USB installer, wiped the whole ssd and installed only Ubuntu. After installing all the uptdates (there were no additional drivers), the problem was still the same.

The HDMI screens were recognized by the OS, but no HDMI output visible on the screen.  DP port connected to a monitor with DP port works fine,

It looks like the power on the Zero's DisplayPort is not enough for the converter to do its work.

I just received an email from Slimbook technical support and their honest answer is:

Unfortunately, our Zero N100 is not compatible with adapters; it can only be connected via DP-to-DP, and adapters will not work. We just tested this on one of our Zero testing, and it didn’t work either.

It seems they also were not  aware of this issue and hopefully they now get in touch with the manufacturer, to get an upgraded model which does support it.  The best will be if it is having the Dual-Mode DisplayPort (DP++).
