EXCALIBUR-AMD-AI: internal panel backlight stays on at lid close (X11, DCN 3.5)

Hello,

A separate question from the SKU/DMI topic — this one is about display power management, not firmware.

On my EXCALIBUR-AMD-AI under X11 (Zorin/Ubuntu 24.04 base), the internal panel does not turn off its backlight when I close the lid. My logind is set to HandleLidSwitch=ignore (I don't use suspend), and on my previous Intel laptops that configuration gave a clean native blank on lid close. On the Excalibur (Radeon 890M, DCN 3.5), the panel stays lit — I currently work around it with a small script that forces DPMS off.

Since your slimbook-psr-fix package already sets amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x610 on this machine, you're clearly already tuning the Display Core PSR/panel behaviour for this panel. So my questions:

1. Is the "panel doesn't blank on lid close" a known quirk on the AMD-AI variant?

2. Is there a dcdebugmask / dcfeaturemask bit (or another amdgpu parameter) that restores native backlight-off on lid close?

3. Do you expect the upcoming amdgpu DC Power Module (heading to kernel 7.2) to address this on this panel?

Currently on kernel 7.0.0-28-generic (HWE). Happy to test any parameter or kernel you'd suggest.

Additional hardware details, in case they help pinpoint the panel/backlight behaviour — gathered with amdgpu_top (v0.11.5):

Display Core / relevant IP:

- DMU (Display Micro-Unit): ver 3.5.0  → DCN 3.5

- DMCUB firmware: 0x9002C01

- GC: 11.5.0 (GFX1150 / Strix Point), ASIC "GFX1150/Strix Point"

- Device: 0x150E rev 0xC4, reported as "AMD Radeon 880M Graphics"

VBIOS:

- name: AMD STRIX_B0_GENERIC

- pn: 113-STRIXEMU-001

- ver: 023.010.001.022.000001  (date 2024/12/19)


Kernel: 7.0.0-28-generic (Ubuntu HWE 24.04 base). X11 session.

Your slimbook-psr-fix currently sets amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x610 on this machine.

Since the panel backlight not turning off on lid close is handled by the Display Core (DMU 3.5 / DMCUB), I'm wondering whether it's tied to this generic VBIOS, to a dcdebugmask/dcfeaturemask bit, or whether it will be addressed by the upcoming amdgpu DC Power Module (kernel 7.2). Happy to run amdgpu_top dumps, test parameters, or try a newer kernel if useful.
