Why do batteries degrade over time?

Overcharging and Complete Discharge:
Overcharging and deep discharge are behaviors that can have a negative impact on the lifespan of lithium batteries. Overcharging, which occurs when a battery is charged beyond its nominal capacity, can generate excessive heat and damage internal components. Similarly, deep discharge, which occurs when the battery is discharged below a safe level, can lead to the formation of dendrites, structures that can short-circuit the battery.

Chemical Aging:
As lithium batteries age, they undergo internal chemical changes. The formation of secondary products during electrochemical reactions contributes to battery degradation. The accumulation of these products reduces the battery's capacity and can generate heat, further exacerbating the problem.

In conclusion, the degradation of lithium batteries is a complex phenomenon influenced by various factors and affecting all manufacturers. As research progresses, scientists are constantly seeking solutions to mitigate this problem and improve the durability of lithium batteries, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of modern technology.
