Excalibur battery drain when asleep

Avatar
emmu

Hi,

I have noticed that my battery drains after I put the laptop to sleep, as if a process was still running or it was not really asleep.
I am running Pop OS 22.04.

I wonder if this could be related to hibernation not being enabled ? But I assume normal suspension should still work ?

Any suggestions are welcome,
Thanks

Good afternoon emmu,

Maybe this is related to Pop OS kernel, can you try to change it?
We know that with the alpha version of Pop Os Cosmic there are no suspension problems.
Best regards,

Hi,

Do you have a specific kernel version in mind ? I am running 6.9.3-76060903-generic
Is Pop Os Cosmic not just a desktop environment ?
(Sorry I am unable to comment, and need to post this as an answer)

Good afternoon,

Yes, Cosmic is the environment, I forgot to put Pop OS 24.04 Cosmic Alpha version, sorry.
Can you specify how much battery drain and in how many hours?
Best regards,

Thanks, I will look into updating to 24.04 Cosmic Alpha and see if that helps :)
It's hard to monitor the battery drain when the laptop is asleep, but in terms of "feel" I assume it's as if all the applications running in the foreground kept running, battery drains at a normal pace (web browser open, various applications, around 40% RAM used) until the laptop powers off.

Hello emmu,

Could you tell us how much battery drain are you experiencing? Our tests shows  roughly 1% per hour.

Best regards.

I may have found a difference, pressing Fn + F1 turns off the screen but does not appear to suspend the laptop, whilst directly suspending it in software does give the expected suspension with roughly 1% drain per hour.
