battery always connected to the power supply

With my old ZBook I always had the charging cable on the device, the battery is now over 10 years old and still lasts a good 3 hours. I think the charging is interrupted until the capacity falls below 95%.

Is it really a big disadvantage to always have the Slimbook plugged in?

It annoys me a little to have to plug in the cable every now and then, especially since it is difficult to unplug it every time it is 80%.

Doesn't the USB C port suffer unnecessarily as a result?

I mainly use the Stimbook at my desk with an Anker 737 power supply.

Hi,

All batteries degrade over time; it’s inevitable. The only thing we can do is extend their lifespan.
To help with this, your Excalibur comes equipped with features to protect the battery.

Check out this link for more information:

Best regards.

Hi,

is this a hardware or software feature? Because my Excalibur seems to always charge to 100% and does not interrupt at 95%.

Best regards.

For those who their battery doesn't remain at 95% after a long workday, I will need you to provide the version of the BIOS installed on your device.

To check this, you can access the BIOS by pressing F2 as the computer starts up, and the version should be displayed on the main screen.

It's exactly the same for me, usually it's the Slimbook connected to the charging cable and the battery at 100%.

Hello everyone,

This is quite unusual. Here in the office, some are using the new Excalibur Refresh Blue, and the SmartBattery system seems to be working. It first reaches 100% and then gradually decreases to 95%. However, it’s true that most of the time the laptops remain plugged in. We’re using Slimbook OS GNOME r95 with the latest available BIOS, v.023.

It’s possible that the laptop needs to stay constantly connected to drop the battery at 95%. My recommendation is to work as usual while plugged into power. If the battery discharges below 80% and is then reconnected to charge, it will reach 100% again.

Keep in mind that the operating system can also affect battery percentage accuracy. As we've noted, SmartBattery is purely a hardware function, and nothing needs to be activated manually. It runs in the background, and while the operating system might not always display the percentage correctly, SmartBattery is always active.

Best regards.

Thank you for your response.
I will test if my Excalibur Refresh behaves the same way. If it does, I think information on blog/website should be updated, because I understood that battery will not charge to 100% unless unplugged at 95% and after dropping to 94% connected again.

My EXCALIBUR-16R-AMD8 under 6.11.11-1-MANJARO XFCE is always 100% charged when I am connected to the charging cable.

BIOS-Version:  HPT_W042_V0.23

My laptop also stays constantly at 100%  and it is for 2 hours already. Command "sensors" says that battery is not being charged now (0 A as input current). It is working correctly because when battery is being charged shows non-zero values for amperage. I suppose that in Excalibur Refresh battery is being charged to 100% and then battery charging is disabled and laptop consumes power directly from charger. If this is true, then information on product page is misleading.

Maybe function we are talking about works only through barrel charging port, not USB-C?

Hello,

As I mentioned, some people in our office use the same model, the Excalibur Blue, along with its USB-C charger provided in the box.
Two hours might not be enough, as we keep our laptops connected to the charger almost 24/7. They've been using them since launch, and the battery degradation still shows 100% health. Currently, the battery percentage is at 96%, but as I mentioned, it may take a long time for the percentage to drop.

As previously mentioned, SmartBattery always runs in the background, and depending on usage and charging, the battery percentage may or may not decrease.

Best regards.
