Slimbook One BIOS inaccessible

Avatar

I have a problem with my Slimbook One AMD M4.

The past couple of weeks I haven't been able to access the BIOS settings, and the machine would occasionally stick on the BIOS startup page.  I would then have to power the machine off, leave it switched off for at least 5 minutes, after which time it would then boot up correctly.

I decided to update the BIOS firmware from the download page.  I couldn't get into the BIOS settings and F7 wasn't giving me the boot options.  After some searching and experimenting, unplugging all peripherals and removing memory modules, I found that I had to remove the internal SSD, after which I could access both the BIOS settings and the F7 boot list.

The BIOS firmware has now been updated and I have a very different startup screen.  However, I am now unable to get the BIOS settings again, no matter what I try.  the F7 button will give me the boot list if I use an external drive or USB flash drive, but not if I use any internal SSD or hard drive.  Whilst I can get the boot list with an external option, the only drive that will run is the BIOS update USB flash drive, other options, such as using me usual SSD externally, or LinuxLive USB drives will not load, after selecting them from the F7 boot list, I get a black screen and nothing more.

I'm not sure what else to try to get it working, or why I am unable to access the BIOS settings.

Hello,

I’ve seen that you’ve also opened a ticket with the same issue. We’ve responded to the ticket with detailed instructions, but I’ll post the same message here so that other users with the same problem can see it and find a possible solution:

The issue you are experiencing could be related to the BIOS firmware, the SSD, or the motherboard.

1. If you have updated the BIOS (correctly, as I see) and you are still having problems, it means that the BIOS is not the issue.
2. If you have tried different hard drives and it still does not boot, then it means that the problem is not with the hard drives but with the motherboard or the motherboard connector.

3. What seems strange to me is that you cannot access any bootable USB drives, as these usually do not cause problems. Have you ensured that Secure Boot is disabled? If so, try changing the USB drive and the method of creating the Live USB. Try using Ventoy or BalenaEtcher.

Ventoy:

You can try with our Slimbook OS ISO, download from here:

4. The CMOS battery connector is located as shown in the following photo.

Disconnect it for 1 minute and reconnect it to forcefully reset the BIOS settings.

Try the steps I have indicated, and if you continue to have problems, do not hesitate to ask me again.
