I got my Executive 14 on Tuesday, and I'm preparing it to become my primary work device (coming from a T14s with a 4750U) running Fedora 40.
So far, I have had to face a few challenges that I could solve on my own (listed at the end of the post). However, there is one thing where I don't know if I am doing something wrong or how to improve the situation: suspend-consumption.
I let the device in suspend for 2.5 hours with a starting charge of 99% and on resume it had 91%. That's a consumption of 8% per 2.5 hours or 3.2% per hour. Looking at the battery capacity of 99 Wh, this means that the suspend-consumption is over 3 W. A fully charged notebook would be drained within just 27 hours. Using battery limits of 80% or even 60% and taking into consideration the recommendation to keep the charge above 20% makes this even worse. I also noted that the device gets noticeably warm when in suspend and packed into a bag.
I verified that the device is indeed in suspend by entering suspend with the lid open. The power button LED slowly blinks, so I'm sure the device is suspended.
Looking at another thread in this forum, I could see a report of 0.80% per hour on an Excalibur with a 68 Wh battery (https://slimbook.com/en/forum/community-forum-1/question/support-of-acpi-s3-suspend-to-ram-sleep-mode-1519). This would be a suspend-consumption of 0.544 W.
So my question is, what is the expected power consumption in suspend (S0)? And if it is below the measured 3W, is there something I could do to lower the suspend consumption? It would really be great to get to somewhere around 0.5-0.6 W.
I will also have a look at hibernate (suspend-to-disk) to see if that's a better fit for me.
Unrelated to my question but may be of interest to others, here are the challenges that I've already addressed:
Missing battery calibration: the battery arrived at 98% charge, but the notebook turned off two hours after turning it on at around 50%. I found the article about battery calibration, and indeed, that fixed this behavior.
The idle consumption of the device was 12-15 W. Installing TLP, disabling turbo modes, and enabling everything related to low power got this down to 5-6 W. That's a bit more than I hoped but still acceptable (better than my T14s).
The 13700H's default power consumption is insane: It can drain the 99 Wh battery in less than 2 hours while causing a loud fan noise. However, there is a killer feature that I was missing on my T14s (and the reason why I switched to Intel): Intel CPU P-state limitation. I am running the device with 30% (via TLP), and I managed to get lower consumption/fan noise than on my T14s (both machines don't have turbo modes enabled).
The device did not come with the latest UEFI. So I had to update (https://slimbook.com/en/downloads?ruta=Executive-14/).
