Hello, good morning.
Our ISOs are bootable, like any other distribution, the media on which you finally burn it should not influence, however it is much more common years ago to use bootable USB for this purpose, as long as your computer detects the cd reader for booting you should have no problem.
However, if you find any details in the process we appreciate the feedback, best regards!
Good morning, thanks for your prompt answer.
However, I think that my question was not well formulated. I apologize for that.
By Live CD, I meant this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD
Cheers,
Jerome
Maybe I misunderstood you, sorry.
But it's basically what I said, you can burn a bootable .ISO on the physical media you want/need (a USB, a LIVE CD, etc..).
If you mean this part:
As CD and DVD drives have been steadily phased-out, live CDs have become less popular, being replaced by live USBs, which are equivalent systems written onto USB flash drives, which have the added benefit of having writeable storage. The functionality of a live CD is also available with an external hard disk drive connected by USB. Many live CDs offer the option of persistence by writing files to a hard drive or USB flash drive.
No, Slimbook OS does not record changes you make in a LIVE session to USB
Regards.
Hello, thanks for the precision.
I am concerned with this part:
A live CD allows users to run an operating system for any purpose without installing it or making any changes to the computer's configuration.
Thanks in advance, best wishes, Jerome
Hello Jerome,
As my colleague Alex mentioned, a Live CD and Live USB is practically the same thing. What matters is not the installation medium (whether a disk or USB stick) but the concept of "Live." This means you can test the operating system—in this case, Slimbook OS—in a safe environment. You can install, modify, and explore the system without any changes being saved once the computer is restarted. This is particularly useful for trying out the OS without having to format the hard drive each time you want to test a new Linux distribution.
That being said, I’m not sure I understand your concern. Are you worried about the part where the configuration isn’t saved? If that’s the case, simply install the OS (following the instructions), and all changes will be saved thereafter.
If your concern is about something else, please let us know and we’ll be happy to explain.
Best regards.
Good afternoon, thanks for your reply. I am interested only by the the Live part. So you answered my question.
Thanks for your patience, best wishes, Jerome.
Hi! The live ISO is a read only file system, no matter if booted from a real DVD media or a pendrive. However, live system creates a RAM based overlay filesystem so you can make changes on filesystem or install packages. Those changes WON'T survive after rebooting.
This method used by Slimbook OS is the same used by most Ubuntu based distributions.
So, short answer... yes, feel free to use it as a Live system.
PS: Slimbook OS does NOT support Legacy boot mode (aka as BIOS mode).
