BIOS option to disable nvidia GPU

Avatar

Hello all,
Is there a BIOS option to disable dedicated GPU (nvidia 4060) ?

This is important for me because a lot of times I like to be able to disable nvidia completely
(for powersaving) and make it completely invisible for my OS (fedora) while using Iris Xe

Thank you!

Good afternoon Mario,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely deactivate the dedicated GPU. In the BIOS, there is an option for MsHybrid and iGPU only. The MsHybrid option leaves it up to the operating system to choose when to activate or deactivate the GPU. By default, it always uses the Iris Xe, but in cases where the application requires more power, it uses the dedicated GPU.

However, I'm sure that Fedora can help you with this, try asking them. With the MsHybrid option enabled, you may be able to deactivate it through software.

If you have any additional questions, we are at your disposal to assist you.

Best regards!

Thank you for a fast response,
My current laptop BIOS has 2 options:
1) Hybrid
2) iGPU,

When it's set to iGPU:
OS(fedora in my case) doesn't see nvidia at all, meaning...
lsgpu, lspci, lshw, dmidecode... all report only intel iGPU
for all practical purpose meaning: nvidia GPU is disabled
(from battery use perspective it would be great if it was powered down)

When BIOS is set to Hybrid:
it's up to switcheroo/OS/user to switch between available GPUs
and now: lsgpu, lspci, lshw, dmidecode, inxi etc... all report both GPUs

So, can you confirm that is the BIOS option and behavior of the new Executive 16 13700H?

Thank you, and
keep up the great work!

I'm glad it worked for you, and you were able to find what you were looking for. Indeed, from the BIOS, it is possible to deactivate the Nvidia GPU by selecting iGPU. If the Executive is using the iGPU, then it shouldn't use the Nvidia GPU, and therefore, the battery savings would be greater.
